restart a service without ensure => running
Is it possible to trigger a service restart without always forcing that
service to be running? We shutdown mysql for about 30min every day to
do backups, and I don''t want puppet to start mysql during this window.
So I''ve removed ensure => "running" from the mysql service. But now
notify => Service[mysql] doesn''t restart mysql.
Is it possible to tell puppet to ensure => "...

Inclusion of a countdown tool of remaining calculation time possible?
...ich even in R require
a lot of calculation time. Is there an option of including a function/
tool or something alike which shows the remaining time of calculation?
Just to see whether there is any progress or whether anything has crashed
and to get a feeling whether we have to wait for 5 min or 30min...
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

trend test for frequencies
Hi,
which test do I have to use if I want to test if the following data follow a monotone trend;
0min 5min 10min 20min 30min
5 20 55 70 90
... where the dependent variable contains frequencies.
And how is that implemented in R?
thanks for any help (on this more statistical-question ...).

Dear All,

The drive get disconnected and when they try to open it 2-3 times it

Error + Syncing problems
...and tried
logging in on client (which uses then the DC2 because no cached credentials
were available)
Result: Passed test
- Added a user with to DC2 (DC1 was still down). After that I pluged in DC1
back and restarted samba on it and waited for 5 min. No sync happened back
from DC2 to DC1. Waited 30min, no result
Result: Failure
Can anyone help me or explain why DC2 won't sync back to DC1? Also can
someone help me to solve the error I get?
Best Regards

Date_Time detected as Duplicated (but they are not!)
...0 NaN -0.34 NaN
2009-03-29 02:30:00 1238286600 0 NaN 1.20 NaN
The dates detected as duplicated are actually different times that got
the same value in the ts version of the object!
What am I doing wrong? They are all observations every 30min, why are
these 2 encoded as the
same time?
Any help appreciated

Fwd: Timebased predictions in postgresql.
...(The db
doesn't really matter except that I hope to use PL/R) and I would like to be
able to predict future values preferable 1 day or more ahead. The highest
resolution on the historic data is 4 minutes but I'm already resampling that
to whatever I need, so if it would be better to use 30min or other
reasolution (because of performance) it would be perfectly ok.
The types of statistics in the database is typically network io/ cpu usage,
temperatur, etc. and I will rarely have holes in the history.
Can anyone tell me how (or give me a hint) I can predict traffic or similar

Samba upgrade on dedrat linux

believe you do this via smbpasswd now)? And how would I restore it again
after reinstalling?
4) Would my smb.conf still work without changes?
It's not a DC, just a member server but I've got a script that copies
passwd, group, shadow, gshadow and smbpasswd accross from their pdc every
30min - would this still be ok?
Any other pointers would be appreciated.

I''m using a Macbook with Leopard 10.5.4 . When I try to install a plugin
from a remote source via Terminal it takes a long time to finish
downloading all the files to my vendor/plugins folder. My internet
connection is not slow (average of 4Mbps). When surfing with a normal
browser, eg firefox, it''s not slow at all . I tried several plugins from

I understand that unpacking a lot of small files may be the worst

other apps reading from the same server till it happens again :-)
What may be the reason for this?
