Understanding of HTB classes
Hi all, I have configured HTB classes on my public interface. I have split the bandwidth among two subclasses say 1:2 and 1:3. Lets say if I configure the rate limit of say 1:2 as 250kbps with a ceil setting of 1000kbps, I presume it means that the class can have bandwidth upto 1000kbps, provided the bandwidth is unused, if not it is assured a bandwidth of 250kbps. Is my understanding correct in this regards when it comes to unbounded classes? Please let me know, Thanks and R...

Better filtering to a class
Dear all, I want to make a filter for all IRC-Dalnet traffic, so I want to put all traffic for port 6660, 6661, 6662, 6663, 6664, 6665, 6666, 6667, 6668, 6669, 7000, 7001, 7002, and 8000 to a class. So, I create a TC script as below. I''m sure, it is not effective, and we can write it in simpler. I need help, how to make my script below are simpler. The simpler, the better. Thank you

How to fit Oggs in a specific amount of space?
...g like that to figure out what quality setting I need to use to fit them in a specific amount of space. Is this even consistant? By that I mean if a certain song encoded at q4 (128k nom.) gets an average of 120kbps does that mean the same song encoded at q8 (256k nom.) will get an average of 250kbps? Or if it's not linear is there a way to predict the q setting to use. So for files that take up 775 Megs @ q10 to fit in 700 Megs I need to use what? q9? q9.5? q9.7? q9.8? There has to be a faster way than trial and error... +------------------------------------------...

Torrent sharing question
Hi Folks. Just a quick question. I have been sharing CenOS 5.0 and 5.1 since I down loaded them. Now we are on to 5.2 is it still worth sharing them or can I archive them to DVD and save some hard drive space? new MS codecs
...denamed “Whistler”, which features advanced audio and video functions. He also unveiled new Windows Media 8 audio and video codecs with significant quality improvements. Near CD-quality audio is now available at 48Kbps, beating Microsoft’s previous 64Kbps rate. For video, “near VHS” is available at 250Kbps, while “near DVD” is at 500Kbps. The quest for higher quality audio and video is growing rapidly. In May, RealNetworks announced RealVideo 8, which it claims can show VHS quality video at about 300Kbps. More recently, it announced RealAudio 8, which provides CD quality audio at 64Kbps – half the...

Upload shaper problem
...ers RT1 - Slackware router RT2 - Slackware router Delay between Test PC and ISP is approx 450 ms. I have the following shapers RT1 ETH2 - dedicated bandwidth for Test PC 40kbps RT2 ETH4 - dedicated bandwidth for Test PC 30kbps RT2 ETH4 - dedicated bandwidth for users to upload is 250kbps The thing is if I use Test PC to download from RT1 it makes straight line of 40kbps. If I use TestPC to download from RT2 the traffic varies from 3kbps to 30kbps. It is very random. If I start a transfer on RT1 from RT2 I can see there is much bandwidth available I can use 230kbps. We simul...

quality settings
ARGH! I am at a complete loss as to which OGG quality settings to use: 8? 10? 3? I'd like to be able to listen to my primarily Rock oriented music on a high-end system (though I don't own one - yet) without any noticeable sound degradation, but I don't want to go total overkill with -q 10. With LAME, I at least used to know 192 kbps with -q0 was a perfect size/quality proportion. I
