Bandwidth and latency requirements
Hi all I've googled but can't find an answer to my question. I have two data centers. Currently, I have a replica (count of 2 plus arbiter) in one data center but is used by both. I want to change this to be a distributed replica across the two data centers. There is a 20Mbps pipe and approx 22 ms latency. Is this sufficient? I really don't want to do the geo-replication in its current form. Thanks CC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Ethernet bridge overflow ?
...7-filter + ipp2 shapper rules The server is a supermicro p4sci + celeron pentium 4 base 3ghz + 512Mb + 2 ethernet e1000 One interface is connected to a cisco catalyst switch The other interface is connected directly to a CMTS (a sort of router for cable modem) configured as bridge too. More than 20Mbps of bandwith cross this bridge. Most of this traffic is p2p (~80%) When traffic goes over 14Mbps the bridge seems to saturate (overflow ? ) and start to make colision and loose packets I''ve take a look to this paper http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf And...

Rate limiting for guests via ebtables
Hello to all, I''ve got some guests that are really beginning to become bandwidth hogs. Some of them are file mirrors, some of them are just simple ftp backup servers. I''d like to try ebtables with my public bridges to try and tame things a bit, and was wondering if anyone has some snippets or scripts they would like to share. I''m new to ebtables, and am finding it a

Can't place 2nd call to provider
Hello list, I'm having problems placing the 2nd call via my provider. The first call goes through and I can talk normally, but when I place the second call, it doesn't go through and the first call is disconnected. The connection is 20mbps downstream and 1mbps upstream, so bandwidth is not an issue. I have another Asterisk running with the same configurations on another place and with the same provider and I don't have this issue. What can be the problem? Best regards, Paulo Santos

TC (HTB) doesn''t work well when network is congested?
...d dev eth2 parent 1:1 classid 1:30 htb rate 85mbps ceil 125mbps mtu 9000 prio 1 $TC filter add dev eth2 parent 1: protocol ip prio 1 u32 match ip dst 192.168.5.141/32 classid 1:10 I ran a test in which all 10 clients send/receive packets to/from the server simultaneously. But Client 1 only got 20mbps bandwidth for sending, and 38mpbs for receiving. If I limit the rate of both classes 1:1 to 60mbps instead of 125mbps, Client 1 got 39mbps for sending, and 40mbps for receiving. I am not sure what might cause this. Is it because TC doesn''t work well when network is congested? Or my scr...

Is gluster suitable and production ready for email/web servers?
I've been leaning towards actually deploying gluster in one of my projects for a while and finally a probable candidate project came up. However, researching into the specific use case, it seems that gluster isn't really suitable for load profiles that deal with lots of concurrent small files. e.g. http://www.techforce.com.br/news/linux_blog/glusterfs_tuning_small_files

request: add TCP buffer options to rsync CLI?
...that allowed send-buffer-autotuning), *and* 2. Too-small TCP receive-buffer on the client-side. I couldn't see how to enlarge TCP buffers from the rsync client-side. By using a web100-enabled client machine (web100.org), we managed to upsize the TCP receive buffers (and went from 20Mbps to ~400Mbps). This by grabbing the running rsync process with a web100 tool, and manually changing the buffers on-the-fly. But the process would be a *lot* simpler if the rsync tool could request TCP buffer allocation from the rsync command line. The sys-admins would still have to...
