AW: RH 6.1 samba 2.0.7pre3 BUG!
samba does the SMB(!) authentication against machine "a" but you MUST have equal users on ALL machines. How else should samba create files on the unix file system if there is no UNIX user to deal with? It is not a problem of samba, it's a "problem" of unix. The only trick to do this would be to create a dummy unix user and do a "force user" to this dummy on every

Samba 2.0.7pre3 snapshot released.
Hi all, I just released Samba 2.0.7pre3, available from : ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.0.7pre3.tar.gz This is the third snapshot of the code that should become the official Samba 2.0.7 and is feature complete (ie. I'm only going to accept bug fixes, not more features). This is *not* production code, but should work well as a file and print server, and contains fixes for

Bug in 2.0.7pre2
Hello, we've have recently installed 2.0.7pre2 (we've used Samba for years) and found a 'bug'. The bug is problematic because Samba has a INTERNAL ERROR -> PANIC and crashes. We need to stop the smbd/nmbd to kill the processes. What's the bug? The problem is editing smb.conf while Samba is running (we can do that with older versions 2.0.6, 2.0.5, etc.) Any idea?

Linux 2.2.13 Intel samba-2.0.7pre2 will Sig11 and die on me right after processing NetBIOS name = FOO in smb.conf. Not always, but sometimes I have to start smbd 2 or 3 times. It always fails there. Any reason why 2.0.7pre2 would do this, and 2.0.6 (from rpm) never did? -- Edward Schernau http://www.schernau.com Network Architect mailto:ed@schernau.com Rational Computing Providence, RI,

2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb of the 2nd samba: [2000/03/29 15:45:30, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(743) Netbios nameserver version

Question
Is there a way to prevent other users from being able to map a drive from windoww95/NT to anyother user directory on the system. For example I can map to anyone's account on the system and have read only access, is there a way to stop this in either the global or share level? Thanks
