samba-2.0.7pre2 and file timestamps
I just installed 2.0.7pre2 on a test system. The file "touch" problem from 2.0.6 seems to be back. Running various utilities called "touch" do not successfully update file timestamps on a filesystem provided by 2.0.7pre2. I actually prefer THIS incorrect behavior over the behavior I've seen after this bug is "fixed". The bugfix posted by Paul Eggert for 2.0.6

Bug in 2.0.7pre2
Hello, we've have recently installed 2.0.7pre2 (we've used Samba for years) and found a 'bug'. The bug is problematic because Samba has a INTERNAL ERROR -> PANIC and crashes. We need to stop the smbd/nmbd to kill the processes. What's the bug? The problem is editing smb.conf while Samba is running (we can do that with older versions 2.0.6, 2.0.5, etc.) Any idea?

samba-2.0.7pre2 compilation on SunOS 4.1.4 with --with-utmp

2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb of the 2nd samba: [2000/03/29 15:45:30, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(743) Netbios nameserver version

Samba 2.0.7pre2 snapshot released.
Hi all, I just released Samba 2.0.7pre2, available from : ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.0.7pre2.tar.gz This is the second snapshot of the code that should become the official Samba 2.0.7 and is feature complete (ie. I'm only going to accept bug fixes, not more features). This is *not* production code, but should work well as a file and print server, and contains fixes for all

Configuration woes corrected
Well after I tried it the ./configure on all machines ( 4 total) I ran a few other compiles of other programs and figured out what was missing. Evidently the RH62 kernel "forgets" to put a symlink from /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 --> asm. I put that in and presto ./configure creates the Makefile and I am compiling 2.0.7Pre2 as we speak. What keyed this was trying a kernel compile,

Samba and DOS
Greetings, Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about? Thank You. pre2.0.7 KOI8-R bug
Hi all, There is a small bug at the new Unicode support. I didn't follow the consequences of this bug, but this _is_ a bug ;-). The bug stands on wrong charset name. Instead of KOI8-R (this is right) it's called KOI-R (this is wrong). (I'm afraid the long lines wrap, but it shows the picture) 1. URGENT:WIN2K MISSING VOLUMENAME
Dear Samba Users I detected a strange behaviour between Win2k Prof. and Samba and I hope somebody can help me fixing it. The Bug: ======= Samba does not correctly return the volume name back to win2k. In the man pages it is written that by default the sharename is returned as volumename. This works fine for Win98 and NT4 but not for Win2k. If I say "label v:" (needless to say that v:

WINS weirdness
I have a Samba server 2.0.7pre2 on linux 2.2.13, which has joined a domain using smbclient. Security=domain, and all works well. It is configured to be the WINS server. PCs and NT boxes in this domain, plus the DCs and PCs in 2 other domains are set up to use this box as their WINS server. (this is Domain1) The PDC in Domain1 is the master browser (local and domain). Here is the problem: 2

May be a bug
Hello! I'v noticed that when i set a Samba as a DMB for a group as follows and turn off WINS support. Samba server never be elected as DMB for a group. Things are changed when i turns on WINS support. nmbd never goes to stage2 - become_domain_master_stage2. As a WINS server in stage2 at few seconds. workgroup = GRP1W wins support = no wins server = my_main_wins_server_ip wins

samba/nmbd BUG?
I'll ask this again, as nobody has answered or addressed this issue yet. 2.0.7pre2 (although it has never worked) Intel Linux 2.2.13 Samba server serves as WINS server for 3 domains. It joined 1 of the domains using smbclient. security=domain I can see entries for the 3 domains in WINS.DAT, and entries for the 3 PDCs in WINS.DAT. On the same subnet as the samba server, there is an NT3.51

Samba can't authenticate in Win2k domain
I have three Sun fileservers running Samba 2.0.4b. They're setup to authenticate with the local NT PDC, "iss-tech-f". In particular, they've got this in their smb.conf files: security = domain password server = iss-tech-f encrypt passwords = yes This setup has been stable for many months, and I routinely point to it as a success story for open source.
