Why some times R-halts?
...I tried from gui the same (workspace-> double click on variable) this gives me the message fetching information. Please wait. Right now I can not do anything there is a interupt running command key in the gui which does not seem to be working. I also tried ctrl+c which broke the execution after 15mins.  What do you do in such cases and why R sometimes looks like has problems with even simple tasks? I would like to thank you in advance for your help Regards Alex [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Directory listing delay with WinXP and IPtables
...version that comes with Redhat). We were seeing an intermittant 20 seconcd delay when grabbing a directory listing, but only from XP, win 2k was fine. I couldn't completely nail down when the delay occured but it seemed to be when the directory or share hadn't been accessed in a while, ~15mins ??. There was never a problem or delay seeing the samba server on the browse list. I turned off iptables and the delay has been drastically reduced, now down to 2 secs, which is acceptable. Obviously I'd like to turn iptables back on. I'm wondering if there are any special port openin...

Group memberships on Linux AD Member (syncing randomly)
Hi, I'm running Samba Active Directory 4.16.9 with packages from Sernet. Domain members are Linux servers (Ubuntu 20.04, RHEL 8) with Sernet Samba 4.16.x. I'm getting crazy with group memberships syncing from AD to Linux members. It is completely random as when changes in AD group are visible in Linux OS (or more precise: winbind), it might take minutes, hours or days as when these

[login_generator] implementing login limits
...ing to implement the following functionality: 1. Allow only 1 login at a time-- if ''admin'' is logged in and another person tries to log in with ''admin'', they are denied. 2. Have an ''auto-logout'' feature where if there is no activity after say, 15mins, the sesion expires and a new login is required to get back in. For [1], I''ve tried hacking the login method in app/controllers/account_controller.rb by adding: if !<at>session[:user].nil? render :text=>"already logged in!" else [...rest of stock login code.....

streaming ogg audio
...uration of an mp3 file is generally easy to determine: - for non-VBR files you derive a good estimation from the file size (from figyu's case I figure it's just winamp downloading files of known size) and the bitrate. I have never seen it differ more than a fraction of a second for 10-15mins files (the same cannot be said for ogg files, I made the test). - VBR files usually come with a file header which provides the duration of the file. Also Winamp may maintain a copy of the file on disk in which case it can seek freely within the already downloaded part of the mp3 file, it could...

Football Manager 2007 running very slowly
Hi all, I have a problem running Football Manager 2007. The game's match mode consists of an almost full-screen, almost-2D animation of the match. 10-15mins into the game this animation slows down to the point of making the game unplayable. The specs of my machine are above the requirements by a factor of 3-5 and so far I have been unable to identify any hardware bottlenecks. The only thing that does help is to suspend the animation for a while by bri...

NEwbie question #2.bis
Me again... If I leave the laptop sitting there for about 15mins, it tries to carry on screams through many lines of messages and ends in a Kernel Pannic, and says that it can''t locate the memdisk to load the kernel, and that I should append valid boot parameters. Is this about the fields in the grub boot param files? Thanks in advance. Trevor ____...

R-1.6.0 to 1.6.1 diff?
Hi, I see there are diff files for other minor versions. Will there be one for R-1.6.1? I use rsync on my Linux box which is unfortunately unavailable on Windows (not using cygwin). I have a related question. I've been building R on Windows myself lately because I found that is necessary if I want to build R packages. Is that true? However, it takes quite a long time to build (on a

SSH backups - 1hr daytime; 8hrs nighttime
...small partition (5MB in size), it does this in a few seconds and with a throughput of 712KB/s which is more like the throughput I get during the day! So why is the backup taking so long? I have checked for overnight cron jobs and disabled the cron.daily run (which kicks in at 4am). I ran top every 15mins (again via cron) overnight when the backup was not running, and could not really see any problem. However the system did seem to be 'busy' during the night despite no-one using the system. The %system and %nice values seemed high (he says having now deleted the actual log file...:-( ) and t...

upgraded from Samba 2.2.8a to Samba 3.0.0 now mount smbf does not work? update
I have upgraded from a almost perfectly working Samba 2.2.8a to Samba 3.0.0, I wished to join my NAS servers to the domain and it seemed something to do with DNS authentication was stopping them from joining, so I upgraded to Samba 3 (not beta) I have searched the web for reasons for this stange behavior but could find no explaination or fix, there are however other people having the same

smbmounts hang around after windows client disconnects
Using 2.2.1a and a 2.4 kernel patched for win4lin. Everything is working but: I mount all the available network shares on my linux box as root to one network directory. If a windows client shuts down while the linux box is still connected, the share is not removed from my mount list or from /proc/mounts It cannot be removed with umount. I can kill the smbmount with kill -15 but the share is still

But I still have the same problem with new, and upon reconnecting to the hub, it ignores blackhole for about 15mins of uptime [msinfo32] (\\blackhole times out). I set samba to win any elections, including ones agains nt servers, and even told it to force an election at one point, it still didn't work. I am puzzled by this, since desk is fine :( Can anyone help me with this? PS Could "Martin Eggins&q...

...Win2k Pro client? Dear all, We're using Samba 2.0.7 on a Debian 2.2 Linux system using kernel 2.2.17. Sometimes when we copy files to the samba share from one of our Win2k Pro client, we could not see the file appear at another Win2k Pro client. We can only see the file appear again in about 15mins later. Our client with same system config has similar problem while some of their files are completely invisible but we can find them out inside the Linux box. Is there some sort of caching for the directory content either at the samba or Win2k Pro? Or it is a bug for the 2.0.7 release? Thanks a...
