0.63 missing .pl files in etc?
Just grabbed the R-0.63.tar.gz from CRAN. Again during the build make fails. bin/build-help did not have exec permissions. After that, it failed for missing *.pl files called from build-help. I just copied them from an R-devel I had. Then make docs worked. However, LibIndex was not built. I am on an hpux-pa1.1-hpux-10.20 using egcs: gcc version egcs-2.92.18 19981101 (gcc2 ss-980609 experimental)

VR and tree libraries for 0.63
These are now at CRAN (at least in Vienna). Please note that VR_5.3pl030-1.tar.gz really does need 0.63: there are problems with 0.62.x and 0.63 reading .rda files written by the other. The earlier VR_5.3pl027-1.tar.gz for 0.62.3/4 remains on CRAN in directory Old/0.62. tree_0.3-1 adds tree.screens and tile.tree (needs 0.63), and support for formulae like use ~ . - estperf - names. -- Brian

unable to load modreg in R-0.63
I am running linuxppc 2.1.128 on a pmac 8500/200 604e. R 0.63 builds and installs without errors. The compiler is egcs 102 pre and binutils 2.9.1.0.15. When attempting to load modreg with the library command the following error is returned. Error in dyn.load(file) : unable to load shared library "/usr/local/share/R/library/modreg/libs/modreg.so" How can I debug this problem?

Asterisk and FreeTDS 0.64 or >0.63
Hello all, just curious if anyone's successfully compiled (*) with the latest FreeTDS code/driver. The Makefile in (*) seems to only take care of 0.63 or older. I tried to muck around with it a bit into tricking to compile for not just 0.63 but anything later than 0.62 but it seems to crap out complaining about CDR modules, which I really don't need. It's been a while since I tried it

R 0.63 testers help: Please "(cd tests; make print-tests.Rout)"
R 0.63 only ------------ (0.62 does not have the print-tests.Rout.save against which to diff!) I'd be glad if some of you could help us find out some printing/formatting differences of the same R version on different architectures. I have the suspiscion that the new glibc aka libc-6 (Linux), has changed some of the internal printing/formatting code [fprintf ..]. One consequence is that

Suggestion
I have to write extensions to R regularly. One of them was an interface to a mysql database on a different computer. The best way to do that is to have something like mysql<-function (dbname, host = "zap", user = "nobody", password = "ok") { handle <<- .RC("mysqlconnect", c(host, user, password, dbname)) } and query<-function (cmd) {

Standardized residual variances in SEM
Hello, I'm using the "sem" package to do a confirmatory factor analysis on data collected with a questionnaire. In the model, there is a unique factor G and 23 items. I would like to calculate the standardized residual variance of the observed variables. "Sem" only gives the residual variance with the "summary" function, or the standardized loadings with the

0.63 naming list elements
The following used to work (0.62.1 the latest that I used), and now it doesn't (0.63.0): force <- vector(mode = "list", length = 1) names(force)[1] <- somename It returns the error: Error in "[<-"(NULL, 1) : object is not subsetable You might argue that this approach is unnecessary now that R allows subscripts that are out of range (e.g., force<-list();

I tried to compile R-0.63.1 to R-0.63.3 on my DEC Alpha with the operating system of UNIX 4.0. All have the same problem after R.binary has been successfully compiled. changes in glm?
I am running some simulations which involve fitting a glm with Binomial error ( in fact Bernoulli) and logistic link. Running R 0.63 I have no problems. However I need more speed so migrated to our UNIX boxes which run Version 0.90.1 (December 15, 1999) Here I get an error Error in (if (is.empty.model(mt)) glm.fit.null else glm.fit)(x = X, y = Y, : y must be univariate unless binomial

Jim Lindsey insisted that such bugs are reported here, so I am. And yes, this is a real example and leads to an
