samba - Dec 2023 - Migrating from NT PDC SV 88 to Samba PDC

Hello,



We need to migrate our AD from NT PDC Schema Version 88 to Samba PDC, but we
can't join our Samba to NT PDC or migrate SID History and Account Passwords
to Samba PDC.



Our company is over 3000 NT Servers and over 5000 Users and we need to migrate
to Samba without Servers rejoin and Passwords reset, but it's very important
for as to migrate.



Is it possible that there will be support for AD Schema version 88 in the
future? If so, are there any approximate date of this?

I think, if you are using Alt OS , contact to vendor support. Migration 
is available, but it's not simple way.


p.s. Native MS AD after migration must be removed.

An NT PDC never had a schema version, but AD does and I take it you
want to move to using Samba AD instead, probably because you can no
longer get support from Microsoft.

Well, as far as I am concerned (and this has nothing to do with the
rest of the team), I will not give you support either, others may help
you, but I will not.

If you want a reason, have a look at what is going on in Ukraine.

There are some clashing information in your email; 'PDC Schema Version
88'
seems you speak of 'Windows Server 2019' and newer, but 'NT PDC'
seems you
speak of 'NT domains', that does not have schema version (really: they
don't have LDAP; samba added that).


So, if you have to migrate a (set of) NT domain(s) to samba, something can
be done.


If you have an AD domain on schema 88 and need to migrate to samba, i think
you need first to 'downgrade' the schema to a samba supported schemas:

	https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/AD_Schema_Version_Support

and i think there's no way to downgrade schema...
