Hello all, we have an AD running Samba 4.12.5 on Centos8 using the packages from sernet. We enabled "Dynamic DNS record scavenging support" as introduced at version 4.9. This works as expected. However, some dynamic updates by the windows and Linux clients (not by the dhcpd server) are marked as static. This is totally random. I routinely delete these entries and sometimes they are created with a timestamp sometimes not. The problem here is that static entries are not scavenged so will not be deleted (as it should be) but specifically with the reverse zones this leads to wrong entries. When a new computer gets the same IP as an already existing entry it can not change that as it is not the owner. I know some here use the dhcpd-server to update the DNS because of that behaviour. We used to do that but our VPN users don't get their IP from the dhcp server and will not be updated. My questions now are: Should I file a new Bug or add comments to this one (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12451)? How can I debug this? Listing the entries like this: samba-tool dns query dc1 8.0.10.in-addr.arpa 8.0.10.in-addr.arpa ALL -P Name=10, Records=1, Children=0 PTR: xx.hq.brain-biotech.de (flags=f0, serial=357768, ttl=1200) Name=11, Records=1, Children=0 PTR: x.hq.brain-biotech.de (flags=f0, serial=357764, ttl=1200) shows no difference. I only see the "static" in the Windows DNS Manager. And there it is the missing "Time stamp" Is there a way to use the ldb tools to get more info?
