I'm sorry, but I don't expect that Samba 4.2 will address the issues you
are concerned about. There hasn't been any major change in Event Viewer
support, nor audit tools. The main user-visible changes in the AD DC
will be the change to using winbindd (rather than a rewrite, that never
worked well enough) and account lockout support.
There have been many other improvements in the AD DC, but most have been
backported to the just-made Samba 4.1.11 release.
RODC support should work in Samba 4.1 and isn't changed in 4.2.
All that said, we hope to make the Samba 4.2 cut soon (was due some time
ago). The tracker bug for the release is here:
