[Samba] smbd -F: standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option
Hi, With the recent migration to systemd (which launches samba in the foreground) I started seeing these error messages % systemctl status smbd.service smbd.service - Samba SMB/CIFS server Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/smbd.service; enabled) Active: active (running) since Wed, 2012-12-19 15:51:15 EST; 20h ago Main PID: 406 (smbd) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/smbd.service ??406 /usr/sbin/smbd -F ??420 /usr/sbin/smbd -F Dec 19 15:51:15 srv0 systemd[1]: Started Samba SMB/CIFS server. Dec 19 15:51:16 srv0 smbd[406]: [2012/12/19 15:51:16.067963, 0] smbd/server.c:1082(main) Dec 19 15:51:16 srv0 smbd[406]: standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option The server runs archlinux 64bit, but these errors are observed on multiple systems, including fedora (systemd) and ubuntu (upstart) servers. Does anyone know the meaning of this error message? In fact "man smbd" tells that "smbd -F" is the proper way to start a server under a supervisor, such as systemd, upstart or launchd...
