I've just tracked down the 'rc: Command not found' error on a SPARC
Solaris system. Turns out that, contrary to the man page, $(AR) has no
default value. Setting this to /opt/csw/bin/gar (for OpenCSW GNU binutils)
and then running ./configure and gmake as normal solves the issue for me.
$ uname -a
SunOS xxxxxx 5.10 Generic_141414-02 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220
$ cat /etc/release
Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC
This should be the same for x86 (I'm keeping my fingers crossed because
that's the next build target).
