Hi everyone , I'am new using Linux and SAMBA, so I hope you can help me to solve this problem : I have installed a SAMBA Server, I have created users and I can log in to the server, nevertheless, everytime I access the server, I lose my local Windows profile (I use the "same user and password"). What should I do to access my SAMBA server without losing my local windows profile (XP)? Regards, Ing. Guillermo Cardenas Comunicaciones y Soporte a Servidores Tel. 9177-5000 ext. 6130
What do you mean with "lose the profile"? Is it a Linux server with some shares and you connect to the shares (eg. net use \\myserver\myshare)? If so, you are now loging in as a domain user. Look at the "Documents and Settings" folder on your Windows computer. If your user name is USER and your domain is called DOMAIN, you will now see a folder named USER and another one named USER.DOMAIN. The first one contains your former local profile and the new one contains your domain profile. If you want to use the same profile, you must copy it to the server. Please search for "Roaming profiles" and "Folder redirection". Excuse me for not being more specific but I just don't have the necessary time now. No virus found in this outgoing message.
