samba - Jun 2006 - [-14200]add_user_attributes: authenticate_node error

Hi Everyone,

I have just setup Samba low and behold on Mac OS X 10.3.9 through 
following the instructions on Page 1444 of Sams Panther Unleashed.

http://localhost:901 (Where I get 401 Bad Authorization) after using 
the root password (which is enabled currently)

After attempting to fix up the smbpasswd I get the following error 
message;

username:~ username$ sudo passwd root
Password:
Changing password for root.
New password:
Retype new password:
isoprophlex:~ isoprophlex$ sudo smbpasswd -a root
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
unable to open file (No such file or directory)
[-14200]add_user_attributes: authenticate_node error
odssam_update_sam_account: [-14200]add_user_attributes
Failed to modify entry for user root.
Failed to modify password entry for user root
username:~ username$

Assistance or input much appreciated.
