Main problem was that, despite having succesfully joined the domain, both
'wbinfo' and 'getent' showed me local UNIX users and groups, but
only domain
groups; couldn't list domain users with either.
Turns out I missed one step, and it's right there in the HOWTO quick start
guide:
# wbinfo --set-auth-user=root%'mypassword'
Once this was done, I was able to list users and groups from both the local UNIX
machine and the domain.
