hi, I have Samba 3.0.9-2.6-suse with Suse linux pro 9.1 on a two machine lan - [east & west]. The two essentially identical linux computers [east and west] are both both server AND client. 1. Am I correct in assuming that this is a valid setup? As the partitions of both computers are the same I have slightly changed the title names in each smb.conf - [e.g., homes and homesw; data and dataw; etc.] to avoid confusing samba - otherwise the other names are the same. 2. Am I correct? or can I have the smb.conf titles be the same? Testparm shows no error but the server type is defined as a: STANALONE SERVER. I expected it to identify itself as principal server in a lan. I am using The Official Samba-3 HowTo & ref guide by Terpstra et al but cannot find a reference to the different server types. 3. Should not each server identify itself as a principal server? I would appreciate some help as the lan is not functional. thanks -- Cheers, Serge Naggar
