samba - Aug 2004 - 3.0-cannot create profile directory...

You should check the permissions on the parent directory.  Even though 
/home/samba/profiles may be 1777, /home/samba might not be.  When 
/home/samba was something like 744, i got this error, but changing it to 
777 fixed it.
