samba - Mar 2004 - Can't get winbind to start

I compiled the latest samba 3 with --winbind but I get error failed when I
try to start it. I don't even get a log file to look at. It looked like I
joined our AD domain because it asked me for a password and didn't complain
like it usually does.

Any help would be appreciated
