samba - Jan 2004 - win2k machines on samba PDC run apps very slow until NIC Unplugged

I am running samba 3.0 as PDC(3.0.1 had a bug that caused problems).

3 of the win2k machines run local apps, such as word and stuff, very slow,
unless I unplug the network cable, then immediately they start running fast.

The PDC is also set as primary internet DNS(for caching) and wins server.

any ideas?

Apparently this is just for starting them(not once they are started).

starting goes very slow.  any help appreciated.

I was told today by another user that this is a known issue with Norton
Antivirus.
