[Samba] last try: change NT password with samba tools?
Hello, last try: Is it possible to change the password on a NT PDC with a Samba tool? I want to bind to the PDC as administrator and set the password of a normal user to a new value - without knowing the old value. I've asked this already but, unfortunately, got no answer (http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-December/076170.html , http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-December/076368.html ). I'd really appreciate to get at least an answer like "no, it's not possible". Thanks in advance, Jochen.

I believe it is possible. Try using winbind, and see if using the command "passwd" will change it. I believe it will. Winbind appends the unix local user list with the domain user list, and fools the local machine into thinking they are local users... but I'm not sure if you can change something on the unix machine and have it automatically change on the Windows server. ____________________________ Shannon Johnson Network Support Specialist / Systems Administrator Dept. of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering 224 Reber Building University Park, PA 16802 Phone: (814) 865-8267 ____________________________> -----Original Message----- > From: Jochen Keutel [mailto:mlists@keutel.de] > Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2003 8:12 AM > To: Samba > Subject: [Samba] last try: change NT password with samba tools? > > Hello, > last try: Is it possible to change the password > on a NT PDC with a Samba tool? > > I want to bind to the PDC as administrator and set the > password of a normal user to a new value - without knowing > the old value. > > I've asked this already but, unfortunately, got no answer > (http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-December/076170.html , > http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-December/076368.html > ). > > I'd really appreciate to get at least an > answer like "no, it's not possible". > > Thanks in advance, Jochen. > > > -- > To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the > instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba

Yes it's possible although I don't think we have an admin password tool coded up for general use. (hint this is how we join an NT4 domain when we have an admin name and password ...using the samr_setuser() call) cheers, jerry ~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ~ Hewlett-Packard ------------------------- http://www.hp.com ~ SAMBA Team ---------------------- http://www.samba.org ~ GnuPG Key ---- http://www.plainjoe.org/gpg_public.asc ~ "If we're adding to the noise, turn off this song" --Switchfoot (2003) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/2Jf5IR7qMdg1EfYRAm0BAKC086IKYp+ZKX3KgVzt7fkUGyvtygCfauiK inMpHuHQVhjm6J1Zntu3Kxo=YiNA -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
