| Subject: [Samba] Outlook Express and Samba
|
| Hi List,
|
| I'm a newbie and i have this problem:
| I'm using a Samba 2.2 of a Suse 7.2 Fileserver in a NT4-domain with PDC
| and BDC.
| All users have an own Directory like H:/home/username.
|
| On NT4-Client, they working E-Mail with Outlook Express (shit happend !)
| and the Outlook-directory is:
| \HEY_CURRENT_USER
| \Identities
| \{...}
| \Software
| \OutlookExpress
| \5.0
| \StoreRoot= 'H:\Outlook'
|
| Users kann receive E-Mail without problem.
| when they are sending, the e-mail stay in `Outbox` and doesn't go out.
| When we want to look in the Outbox, is the mail deleted...
|
I think OE was not made to do this, which is why you can't set your mail
store to be on a network drive from the gui (you did this via editing
the registry or something like that, correct?).
I haven't set OE this way (we use netscape/mozilla), but I would suspect
it is OE at fault. So unless you have some weird settings in your
smb.conf, your options are:
1)Use a real (aka IMAP) server, and somehow convince OE not to cache the
entire contents of the IMAP server in the mail store (which it does by
default, normally in your profile, making excessive copies of all your
mail around the network, all while your mail is safe on the server
anyway), although that shouldn't be a problem with your current
settings, you will just waste server space.
2)Use a real email client. Netscape 4 works well for this. Mozilla
(depending on the speed of the machines) may be better.
Your SUSE box should come with an IMAP server (or two)?
