[Samba] spoolss, PANIC: internal error and the NT4 Server service
Hello all, I'm running 2.2.3a-6 on a Debian testing box with NT 4 clients, and am getting <Initializing> then <Failed to open, retrying> on samba printer(s). Observing the logs for the offending machines reveals something apparently fairly serious: [2002/04/04 16:01:51, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(381) samj logged in as admin user (root privileges) [2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] libsmb/cliconnect.c:attempt_netbios_session_request (977) attempt_netbios_session_request: MYBOX rejected the session for name *SMBSERVER with error Called name not present [2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] rpc_client/cli_spoolss_notify.c:spoolss_connect_to_client(73) [2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] lib/fault.c:fault_report(38) ==============================================================[2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] lib/fault.c:fault_report(39) INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 29585 (2.2.3a-1 for Debian) Please read the file BUGS.txt in the distribution [2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] lib/fault.c:fault_report(41) ==============================================================[2002/04/04 16:01:52, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1064) PANIC: internal error The clients have netbios-node-type 0x2 by DHCP and share the same WINS server. However, for security, the 'Server' service was disabled some time ago so they do not register themselves (at least not as SMB servers anyway). Enabling the Server service resolves the problem. Why is this? I assume the server *must* connect to the clients for spoolss to work? I'd really like to disable the server service again so any suggestions would be welcomed. -- Sam Johnston Australian Online Solutions 1300 132 809
