I am going to be backing up my web server through a Samba share. My webserver has three partitions; "/" "/usr" "/www" I would like this share to be password protected and hidden. One of the problems I ran into is getting a password prompt for the share ( by default it logs me in as guest). I was wondering if anybody had some type of share template I could go by. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thank you David
Set guest ok = no In your share definition. Ok I did that and I get the windows "connect as: ... passwd" dialog box. But I cannot get the username and password to authenticate ( ex. I am trying to connect as root and I have admin users=root in my smb.conf) Thanks -----Original Message----- From: samba-admin@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-admin@lists.samba.org]On Behalf Of Martyn Ranyard Sent: Monday, February 11, 2002 10:09 AM To: David L Nickel; Samba Mailing List Subject: Re: [Samba] Need Share Advice Set guest ok = no In your share definition. So, you have added root to smbpasswd? as in smbpasswd -a root? If so, then you might need to enable clear-text passwords on the client or set encrypted passwords = yes in the [common] section. I would increase my log level (> 2) and then watch the log with a tail -f as you try to authenticate. I believe that will possibly show you where the problem is.
