samba - Dec 2001 - Samba-3.0

Hi to all

does someone knows why Samba 3.0 
isn?t possible to mount any Shares from a Server ?

i used Domain Authentication and the Share Listing works fine.
but when i try to mount the share no Error is logged.
the Share is listed in mount but isn?t accessible, just the 
underlayed Folder. umounting brings up the Error //../.. not mounted ...

any suggestions and help would be nice 8)
using Samba 2.2.2 works fine.

You didn't say exactly which 3.0 you are talking about (alphaX). smbmount
is/was broken in the CVS HEAD branch and that is probably true for the
alpha releases too.

One part of the problem is in smbmount (may be fixed in head now, but
probably not). The other is in libsmb that doesn't seem to be working for
dos status codes, which smbfs uses.

Depending on what the plans are for 3.0 this may require changes to smbfs
too.

Is it possible to login to a unix box without a user account entry in
/etc/passwd or /etc/shadow
using samba-3.0 to pull account information from Windows Active Directory.  If
so could someone
point me to a "detailed" document on setting this capability up.
