I did find in the 2.2.1a version a way of storing the password in an LDAP
server and the samba.schema was very limited. Has it progressed to the
point where you can use the LDAP as a full login service with user
information in it like login scripts, smb group memberships, etc.?

SAMBA_2_2 and HEAD (although still has some bugs).
