samba - Sep 2001 - Help on Linux/ MS-VSS

Do we have a Linux version of Visual  Source Safe(VSS).
How can we use Samba to make MS- VSS work so that
developers can use the VSS database.
Basically we want both linux and windows users to use VSS.
Does anyone knows a solution?

You need Linux-side locking support for "oplocks";
this is part of the new kernel (2.4???)
  You will also need to verify that VSS is one of the
"normal" database-like programs which use DOS
locks: this is testable by putting a set of VSS
files on a seperate share, turning off oplocks, but leaving
all normal locking in place.
  If these behave normally under multi-user updating, then
you need to do the equivalent test on Linux with the Linux 
VSS client (is there one? I didn't know about any...)
  With both of these proven out, you can then start
moving production files to your share... but ,make
sure you have daily full backups of them, as any
undetected problems Would Be Bad (;-))
