Have you checked your passwd chat parameter? This parameter has to be set on a
case by case basis, as Samba uses the Unix passwd program to change a user's
password; Samba doesn't have any internal Unix method to change the
password. Here's an example of what I use on my Red Hat 6.1 system:
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *Retype*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *success*
YMMV, depending upon which version of Unix you are using. Have a good one!
