hey guys! I'm a newbie. I noticed that our samba server is copying the profile of every workstation. I just wonder if there's something that I can configure on the server to limit the profile that will be copied on the server. Like if I don't want the Application Data folder to be copied on the server or just the My document folder only. Or I have to tweak every workstation. I hope there's a way. Thanks in advance. Hallo! Since i have updated my os (rh-7.3) and my samba (2.2.4) I have a problem with my profile. When I start my WinNT-box i get the message, that the profile cannot create profile-dir \\server\profiles\michael.pds My netlogon tell me that there are error while savin my profile and look at HELPMSG 3678 What's going wrong? I have the computers joined to the domain (running XP), but if i try to log into the domain i get a msg about the roaming profile is not available (at the bottom it says details - access is denied) and then tries to load a local profile which it can not load either. I can access both the netlogon share and the profile share when i log into just the computer itself. The netlogon share has the login script and the file config.POL I have read different howto's and faq's, but can't seem to find the answer. Hi. I'm new to the list and I hope I'm not boring anyone with old news. I did grep through the archives and I came up dry. I have two problems that I'm trying to solve. The first problem is that some of my users have "My Documents" folders that are measured in tonnage. How can I make Windows not save this directory? I believe that the fault is with windows because whenever I change anything to prevent it from saving, windows barks a warning. I don't want these files on my server, and my laptop users are crying because it takes so long to shut down. The second problem is thumbs.db & desktop.ini. I believe these are produced by windows explorer and are usually hidden/system files or something. Well, when they're copied back to the workstation from the profile it seems that they lose their magical properties. I'd like to get these to work properly. Everyone keeps complaining about "desktop" icons averywhere and the art director always has to select thumbnail view on every directory. Again, I apologize if this is covered ground, but I did search though the archives, and "Samba Unleashed" isn't being very forthcoming. Thanks - Mark _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Hi, With the My Documents problem, I have pointed the My Documents folder to my home drive. If you right click on My Documents and hit properties you can change the target. Your second problem with desktop.ini and thumbs.db are files created by XP. You could put these files in the veto list under the share. look at veto in the man pages.
