If I change security = share in smb.conf it will work with all the machines for both windows 98 & NT but there will be no security. I am using solaris 2.7 & our network is peer to peer network. We do not have NT domain concept here. Please help me in configuring samba. Thanks Girish -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... 1. - Make sure you either have no firewall running on the Samba machine, or that ports 137 - 139 are open 2. - Set security=share (no security) in your global config settings to see if you have a user rights problem.

Am I right ? Hopefully yes. Have you check the window98 registry? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP You have to add a new DWORD value. Value Name: EnablePlainTextPassword Data: 0x01 This setting is used when you would like to have unencrypted password. You should also set smb.conf parameter for this typical password. Detail of this step, you could find in SMB HOWTO Otherwise, it could be found also in using_samba, other possibility, install samba-swat. Regards ++ pit ++
