Where is the exacutable? There isn't one if you got the tar.gz that contains the source code. You can compile and install that by following the included instructions. The other option is that you find a precompiled package for your OS. The samba ftp site has a few in the Binary_Packages directory. /Urban
okay, I am new to Samba so ignore my inevitable stupidity !!! I just downloaded the samba gzip file and unzipped and untarred it. I read the README file and the UNIX-INSTALL.html file and they said nothing about any prior setup you have too do. I tried installing the software and get the following: loading cache ./config-cache Checking for gcc ... no Checking for cc ... no configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH my $PATH is: /u01/acc/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/SUNWspro/bin:/usr/ucb:/etc:.:/usr/sbin:/usr/ccs/b in:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/local:/u sr/local/root:/arch/samba-2.2.3a We are on Solaris 2.6. What is this looking for ? I threw it a GNU bone and it became complacently happy and was willing to play with the install file. Now onto the configure and setup portion - of course I gotta find the doc for it first !!! thanks for the help !! Hi, I've got problems with installing Samba-latestversion. Using SuSE v7.0 and even after installing the new Samba it reports when I'm using smbstatus = 2.0.7 (should have been 2.2.5) Have I missed to do something. ./configure - make - make install (should I enter some config-files) THX/Jens _________________________________________________________________ P?
