Hi, I'm running samba on several systems, two redhat 6.1 systems and one Solaris 7 system. On all three there's about a 5-10 second wait upon the first connect before it logs in. This is causing a problem, as on occasion it fails to connect at all - gives no error or anything, just does nothing, especially when double-clicking on shortcuts from the desktop. And the icons for said shortcuts turn from pretty yellow folders to nasty white "I-dont-know-what-this-is" windows icons. Has anyone seen this problem before? Attached is smb.conf for one of the systems (the others are pretty much the same). <<smb.conf>> Thanks Andrew Langton -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... In my experience, actually joining a domain is faster and more reliable. ("security = domain" and follow the docs about how to join.) (Except when it's not, like when the trust account password gets out of sync, which happened to me twice in 2.0.5a. Not sure if that bug's been fixed yet or not). Peter
Yo uwrote: | I'm running samba on several systems, two redhat 6.1 systems and one | Solaris 7 system. On all three there's about a 5-10 second wait upon the | first connect before it logs in. Something's delaying the authentication: suspect DNS or WINS, and make sure the NT box is "optimized for network throughput", or you'll have a severe limit on logins/second. Or it may just be too slow (;-)) Looking at packet logs with timestamps can tell you what machine is wasting the time: if you can't grok them yourself feel free to email me.
