3.7.1P2, PermitRootLogin and PAM with hidden NISplus passwor ds
It works for the "yes" case but not for the "without-password" case.
The function that checks (auth_root_allowed(auth_method) is special
cased for "password". The Pam case sends "keyboard-interactive/pam"
which like all other authentication methods except password succeeds.
Here is a patch to make it work for me. Please feel free to criticize

Users can't change their passwords
Hi,
I have a smoothly running Samba PDC.
Just one thing that isn't working: when users try to change their
password in their windows 2000 machines, they get an error saying: "The
domain NETUAL is not available", but it is !!!
I even set 777 permissions on /etc/shadow (shame on me) just to test,
but nothing.
Curious thing is that i'm running a RH package 3.0.2
If i compile

I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where
I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the
ldap database.

Using tcpdump to sniff telnet password
Hi all,
As long as I can remember reading various articles/docs, they all say that
telnet is not secure because all traffic is in clear text. Well, out of
boredom, I try to sniff username and password from a telnet session.
The command I use: tcpdump tcp port 23 -vvv -w test.txt
Then I read the result: strings test.txt

Missing Files on share
Hello all,
I have an old server here, which is my PDC and has worked fine so far.
It runs Conectiva Linux 8.0 and Samba 3.0.4
Here's the deal. In a share (I didn't check all, this is the one that the
users complained so far), there are files missing.
The problem: In Windows XP Pro workstations, when browsing the share, which
should have more than 1,000 files, only about 200 show up.

pwload / reversed pwget
Hi,
I would be *VERY* interested in a reversed pwget (see
http://www.martnet.com/~johnny/exploits/microsoft/NT/WinNT.passwordhashes.deobfuscation.html)
to be able to automaticaly set first-time NT passwords
('smbpasswd -r' will only work if you first enter the 'previous'
password) on our PDC (evt. remote from UNIX through some tcp (ssh?)
connection).

w2k-client and ntconfig.pol...
Hi,
after setting up samba 2.2.3a as a PDC and connecting
a few NT4- and W2k-Clients to the PDC (which worked fine without
any problems), I tried to install a policy to redirect some
folders in the user profiles. I used poledit to create
a policy with modified 'Shell Folders' and 'User Shell
Folders' keys and copied it to the netlogon share. This is where
the problems started: The
