Thanks everyone for all of your help.. and thanks for being patient. my printing LARGE files is now working correctly! Robert
Gang, Thanks for the hard work. While I love to delve into my two Linux boxes, the reality of the world is that there are LOTS of MS users out there. My wife is less computer literate than I, and more than one OS is more than she can handle. Giving here a Windows 98 computer and letting here store shared files on the "S:" (for server) drive fills her needs, and makes life VERY simple for me. I have 15 years experience in journalism, and would be interested in helping with the Samba project. I am also the Assistant CIO for Research at a graduate level University. I would like to offer my services in proofing/dressing up the Samba documentation. It's been awhile, but I've done documentation in the past, and feel the distractions some people experience when they come upon a typo will detract from having Linux accepted as a serious OS. Thanks for the work/effort that you and all of the others have put in. If it where not for you and people just like you I would be completely LOST. Thanks Anthony (a new linux user)
Way to go Anthony. Always Linux. Anthony Ybarra wrote:> Thanks for the work/effort that you and all of the others have put in. Thanks guys for developing and contining to develop samba. I've been using it for years to administrator many different networks and I've always found it vastly superior in performance and functionality to windows NT and 2000 servers. Andrew Hill Managing Director treshna Enterprises Ltd
Just a note of thanks to the Samba Team. I administer a 6 system network at a tire warehouse and developed a custom inventory and accounting system in C. I've had all sorts of problems with our Windows NT 4.0 Workstation which was being used as our file server. I'd append a record to the end of a file, then read it back and it would be garbage. After closing server files from a client, the resources would still be open on the server, eventually causing the system to crash. The last straw was when it started taking as long as 45 seconds to simply open a file. That's right, I'd call fopen() and it wouldn't return for 45 seconds. Of course being closed source, there was no way for me to determine what the heck Windows was doing for 45 seconds, let alone fix the problem. Our server is now a Linux/Samba box and it works flawlessly. I can now go back and take out some of the ridiculous hacks I had to implement to get the system to run on NT. Thanks much for making my life easier, and our business data more secure. Jim McManus Wholesale Tire & Wheel Flagstaff, AZ.
Just to let you know your valuable work is very much appreciated. I deployed a win 2k sp2 server to upgrade a win nt server last Friday. Samba is the PDC running on Sun E5000. I was running 2.2.0 and upgrading to 2.2.3a went very smooth and allowed the win 2k server to join the domain. Great work! Im just wondering if anyone has got Samba 2.2.2 working as a PDC with XP clients logging in. Im having serious trouble getting mine to work. If you have it working could you send me your smb.conf file so that I can try to understand where I am going wrong. Thanks Jethran Waugh Attatched is a copy of my smb.conf incase there is something obviously wrong with it which I cant see. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Have you "installed" the Registry patch for Windows XP? You can find it the samba-source/registry. //Anders> Im just wondering if anyone has got Samba 2.2.2 working as a PDC with XP > clients logging in. Im having serious trouble getting mine to work.
