Thursby's DAVE and Symlinks
Does anybody here have any experience with Thursby's DAVE and symlinks on a
Samba Server?
When I connect to my Linux Samba Server via DAVE (running on Mac OS X
10.3.8), I can see all the links that I have made to files that reside in other
directories on the Linux Server. However, Mac OS X thinks they are aliases. And
when I try to open them, I get back a Mac error saying "The

Samba 3.0.20 and ADmitMac
Does anyone have any experiences with integrating Samba and Thursby
Software's ADmitMac? All of our Microsoft XP and Win2000 workstations work
just fine with Samba, but I'm having a hell of a time getting ADmitMac to
play nicely with Samba.
Conversely, ADmitMac works great with Microsoft NT4, 2000 and 2003 servers.
I'm not able to browse the network let alone join the OSX machines

Mounts on Mac, Linux but not Win98 - bad password
I am trying to set up Samba for the very first time in my life on a SlackWare
Linux 7.1 system. I'm using kernel 2.4.2, and the Samba 2.0.7 that comes
precompiled with Slackware 7.
I'm only moderately clueful at this point, but I have experience with other
Linux and networking stuff. I can build Samba from sources if you think that
would help.
I ran through the diagnostic tests given

DAVE 2.0
When the DAVE 2.1 client tries to connect with samba, it gets an error that
machine name doesn't match. This DAVE client connects with NT systems fine,
and other Windows systems connect with samba fine, so it's just samba and
DAVE that are having this failure to communicate.
When DAVE 2.0 client tries, it connects fine but when I try to copy a file

Macintosh OS 9.2 and SMB Networks
Some use Dave (http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html) or DoubleTalk
(http://www.connectix.com/products/dt.html). However, we use Netatalk
(http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/) successfully to share the Unix/Samba file
system with our Mac clients. Is there any reason you can't use Netatalk?

removing a file lock
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a way to remove a file lock. I haven't found any
method using the smb tools. I'm assuming I could remove the file lock by
deleting the entry in the locking.tbd file, but the keys are stored as
binary, so I can't figure out a way to give tdbtool a proper key name to
delete the entry. Anyone know how to remove a file lock? We're using

Apple shares?
Hi,
I have a need to do some file transfers between my AIX 4.3.3 boxes and Apple
PC's. I use SAMBA to provide shares to PC's, but I know nothing about Apple.
FTP is an option, but less desirable than setting up a share. Does anyone
have experience with using SAMBA to set up shares with Apple clients?
I know that there are, other products to accomplish what I ask, but in terms

Dissapearing samba servers
Hi
I've seen a couple of people post this problem, but I've never seen an
answer, and now it's happenning to me.
I run Solaris 2.5.1, and samba-1.9.17p1.
Every so often a pc can look in the network neighborhood and the samba
server just isn't there, though you can still map a network drive by
using a UNC pathway:
\\server\share
so the share is still out there but the server

Samba4 - PDC - RHEL6 - Slow browsing from Mac clients
Hi,
I'm in the process of rolling out a brand new server as a Samba4 PDC to a customer with about 30 users. It's going well except for the fact that I now have some serious slow browsing issues from Mac clients, and that?s when only a handful of them are connected to the server. Note that if I install software such as Dave from Thursby on the Macs, the speed issues vanish. Also, browsing

Hi,
has anyone implemented a mail server with maildir, Postfix and Dovecot using
Active Directory ad userbase and password authentication?
Do I need Samba to authenticate users?
Can I use credential caching just like mysql?

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6
that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which
are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server.
I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new
server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba
server. Someone said it

Highly Performance and Availability
Hello everyone,
I am currently running Dovecot as a high performance solution to a particular
kind of problem. My userbase is small, but it murders email servers. The volume
is moderate, but message retention requirements are stringent, to put it nicely.
Many users receive a high volume of email traffic, but want to keep every
message, and *search* them. This produces mail accounts up to

Dave connecting to samba 17p4 trouble..
Hi,
using Dave 2.0b3 under MacOS 8.0 with success. I got one minor problem.
I can't consistently logon before I have mounted a samba share. Any
solutions to this?
Also, I need some advice on how to print to samba printers.
Thanks for a great free product!

Login annoyance
OK, now I have everything working. I have my smbpasswd file setup and I verified that it is working. Very cool. I still have one question regarding an annoyance with the login window. Although my users and I can log in successfully, the window still has this annoying message (see attachment):

MAC OS 9 on Samba 3.0 vs. Samba 2.2.7
I am experimenting with MAC OS 9 using samba as a file server. I am
using Thursby's DAVE to connect. For those who don't know, DAVE is a
client utility that allows an OS 8 or 9 system to connect to windows
file shares.
The MAC can connect to both servers with no problems. However, when
copying a file to the samba 3 server, I get the following error:

Illegal Characters in filename
Hi all,
We are sharing directories from Windows 2003 server to, among other
things, Mac computers. Most of the time the windows shares work
perfectly. However we are running into a problem with users entering
odd characters into file names on the Mac clients.
The Mac clients see these files/folders perfectly fine, as samba on
the Mac allows for these odd characters. However, if someone tries

Dave clients on OS 9 not able to logon to Samba 3
Sorry for the lengthy post,
Have a mix of OS 9 Macs, OS X, and Win XP clients which need to connect to
a Samba server. Been using Dave 4.0.2 on the OS 9 machines, native smb
client on OS X ones. We have one RedHat 7.3 server, with samba-2.2.7, from
rpm, which works fine. Now I'm building a RedHat 9 server, with Samba
3.0.13-1, compiled from source. But can't get the Dave clients on
