I don't know exactly what the problem was but it's gone away in 1.9.18. I think it was a bug in nmbd whereby it would lose registering itself as the domain controller (certainly, looking at the browse lists with smbclient showed this to be the case). The odd part was that it seemed to be crashed by the clients. A little (occasional use) server we have, a 486DX2/50, worked fine with a 486DX4/120 client machine. However, when we powered up a P166, the domain logons stopped working (for all clients). In short, upgrade to 1.9.18p1 and it should go away. Hi. Why does Samba allow to create pathlength greater than 255 char on a LINUX 2.0.29 Maschine. I created pathlengt with 280 Char and more, and have a lot of trouble with that. Because the BackUp-Programm that I use (taper 6.8.3) does not handle this correct. All the Index-Files of BackUp-Programm get corrupted and so the BackUp is worthless. mvs Juergen Schneider --------------------------------------------------------------------------- _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ KommunikationsInformatikSystemeSchneider _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ Unternehmensberatung _/_/ _/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ Juergen Schneider Dipl-Ing. I suspect that the speed issue has to do with overhead of looking up the machine on every open when you use the UNC path. The extra lookups would slow down every UNC open by a large margin. --- Being a Mac user is like being a Navy SEAL: a small, elite group of people with access to the most sophisticated technology in the world, who everyone calls on to get the really tough jobs done quickly and efficiently.
