[rsync-announce] rsync 2.5.4 released
A new version of rsync has been released:
rsync 2.5.4 (13 March 2002)
"Imitation lizard skin"
BUG FIXES:
* Additional fix for zlib double-free bug. (Martin Pool, Andrew
Tridgell) (CVE CAN-2002-0059)
ENHANCEMENTS:
* Merge in changes from zlib 1.1.3 to zlib 1.1.4. (Jos Backus)
(Note that rsync still uses a custom version of zlib; you can
not just link against a system library. See zlib/README.rsync)
* Additional test cases for --compress. (Martin Pool)
rsync source code can be downloaded from
http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/
ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/rsync/
and numerous mirror sites.
GPG detached signature files are present on the server for all new
versions. To be sure of the origin of a package before installation,
please run the command
gpg --verify rsync-2.5.4.tar.gz.sig
in the directory containing both the .tar.gz and signature files.

The rsync.spec file within the rsync tar package is still broken, so here's
a working rsync.spec file.
Simply (as root) copy rsync-2.5.4.tar.gz into /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES then
run "rpm -ba rsync.spec" to produce rsync-2.5.4-1.i386.rpm

%description
rsync is a replacement for rcp that has many more features.
rsync uses the "rsync algorithm" which provides a very fast method for
bringing remote files into sync. It does this by sending just the
differences in the files across the link, without requiring that both
sets of files are present at one of the ends of the link beforehand.
A technical report describing the rsync algorithm is included with
this package.
