This is a full time, on-site, salaried Director of Engineering position located in Greenwich, CT paying $150,000 to $170,000 depending on experience + benefits. No telecommuting allowed. The Hands-on Director of Engineering will report directly to the CTO manage all aspects of software development including architecture and design, code development, implementation, QA and direct management responsibility for a team of 6-8 full time and contract developers. Expectation is that this role will spend approximately 60% of his/her time managing the team and 40% developing software. Duties: * Develops custom solutions and applications in Ruby on Rails * Performs software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, software review and system risk analysis * Oversees and manages team of 6-8 developers. Provides assignments, prioritizes tasks, and works closely with developers to ensure business objectives are being met * Demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, code comments and clear code * Prepares and installs solutions to problems after analysis is complete * Works closely with internal business leadership and external clients to define requirements and create solutions * Improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes to policies and procedures * Evaluates, identifies and implements new technologies * Architects solutions to maximize scalability, performance and security Qualifications: * Degree in Computer Science or equivalent required * 5+ years of general web development experience and 2+ years of Ruby on Rails experience required * 2+ years experience as team lead or manager of software developers * Excellent understanding of the MVC architecture and OOP design and principles * Strong background in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
