Hi Guys, i just want to know Is Ruby is better than Perl?If yes Who?If No Y?Please let me know Thanks in Advance. S.S -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
In what sense? Are you speaking in terms of backend processing? If that''s a yes, I have worked with perl for awhile and it thrives in data migrations, billing systems, invoice generation and so forth. Its regular expression engine does win a lot of approval. For web development, there is a pretty good framework that Perl has which is called Catalyst. Used it and found it was good but rails does have some very good points. gordon

Guess it comes down to personal preference, and I prefer Ruby (as will most people on this RUBY on rails list). Every language has its merits and its shortcomings. Syntaxwise for me, Ruby wins the fight easily, performancewise, Perl will probably be faster, but Ruby has never been a hurdle for me. Ruby and Rails make me more productive, and that''s what counts for me in the end. This question has been posted and answered several times all over the net, so do some research: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=ruby+versus+perl They both are perfectly capable of doing backend processing, web development and they both have packages and frameworks to help you with. Look around, find which one suits your style of programming better and go for it. Geez. Just replied earlier. i think you''re opening up a can of worms here. Agreeing with one of the responses, there''s merits in both. If you''re a student who has never touched perl or ruby, pick them up and be the judge. The best tools for the best job depends on the carpenter. Gordon
