I am beginning a conversion from our existing mid-range platform to a Ruby on Rails web application. Over the course of the next four to twelve months I desire an on-site Rails mentor for approximately 4 hours a day, twice a week, at least to begin with. Rates of pay are negotiable but I anticipate paying something in the $30-50.00 CAD / hr. range. The location is in the east end of Hamilton near old Stoney Creek on Barton Street East near Grays Road. The target platform is CentOS-5 i86 based running PostgreSQL-8.2 as the backend with Ruby-1.8.5 and Rails-1.2.4. Subversion-1.4.2 and Trac-0.10.4 are used as the project management tools. We have selected the Goldberg generator to provide the application "skin" and have customized it to our requirements. Preliminary database design work is done and the initial application structure has been settled. We plan to employ an iterative development process as that has served us well in the past. What I require is someone with experience in coding Rails applications to assist and guide me in setting up page layouts, producing input forms and output reports and such. I am somewhat familiar with rails and ruby so this is not intended as a private introductory tutorial (however it may turn out). Anyone interested please contact me directly at byrnejb at harte-lyne dot ca. I had one offer from a guy in Ottawa that wanted to try tele-mentoring, but the negotiations sort of petered out. I have attended a couple of Pragmatic Studios and had one session with a local consultant. The courses were helpful but are not really what I needed when I posted that original message. The consultant is a good guy but, again, not exactly what I need/desire. This forum/mailing list provides much of the assistance that I obtain, albeit at little slower rate than what I desire. I am finding the Pragmatic Alumni mailing list helpful as well. Lack of peer consultation is one of the big drawbacks working as a sole practitioner, but that circumstance is not likely to change so that I must accommodate it as best as I can. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
