Rails - Feb 2007 - Help and guidance

We are trying to develop a website for a new idea of ours. We have
been evaluating drupal and asp.net so far as a platform. And then we
were referred to ruby on rails. I shall briefly highlight my
background in programming. I will greatly appreciate if people can
direct me to relevant material specially for beginners which rapidly
help me evaluate this platform.

--- C/C++ highly proficient (BS and PhD in computer science)
--- NO experience in web development whatsoever
