Is someone actually maintaining the SaltedLoginGenerator ? Jean

Guys, I haven''t been maintaining it due to time constraints lately, but I might make a plugin if I get some time. Is anyone interested in taking this over from me? Also, is anybody strongly in favor of keeping the localization stuff? I realize in retrospect that it was probably a mistake to add it, and would prefer to take it out. Joe- Please take out the localization and make it optional. I think it has caused confusion for people who don''t need it. I''m for taking it out... but maybe leave the _("") part on all strings so it''ll be easier to localize stuff if needed using another plugin? Joe, I spent last night correcting the unit and functional tests generated. They don''t play well at all with the new defaults in rails. It was a good experience for me debugging them but I dread having to redo it each time I use the generator ... :( besides I am also in favor of removing the localization from the generator. I unfortunately can''t maintain the package myself, but I will check it out and try to produce a patch to correct the tests for rails 1.0 (also it seemsthe generated code absolutely requires transactions to work) James, since you are working on plugins.. can you point out a good documentation on the plugin system ? There isn''t really any documentation for the plugin system as yet - what you need to look at is the load_plugins method in railties/lib/initializer.rb: 124<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L124> def load_plugins 125<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L125> config = configuration 126<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L126> 127<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L127> Dir.glob("#{configuration.plugins_path}/*") do |directory| 128<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L128> next if File.basename(directory)[0] == ?. || !File.directory?(directory) 129<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L129> 130<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L130> if File.directory?("#{directory}/lib") 131<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L131> $LOAD_PATH.unshift "#{directory}/lib" 132<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L132> end 133<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L133> 134<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L134> if File.exist?("#{directory}/init.rb") 135<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L135> silence_warnings do 136<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L136> eval(IO.read("#{directory}/init.rb"), binding) 137<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L137> end 138<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L138> end 139<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L139> end 140<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L140> 141<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L141> $LOAD_PATH.uniq! 142<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/tags/rel_0-14-2/railties/lib/initializer.rb#L142> end So, basically, anything in <your_plugin>/lib will be available for ''require''-ing, and you can have a script called init.rb which will be loaded (actually, ''eval''ed), so you can use this to load/initialize your script. As far as I can tell, that''s all the default plugin system does. Take a look at the Rails Engines description for what we''ve added to this. I''d be *very* keen to explore how best to include and run tests for Engines - hopefully at the start of next week we can start to figure this all out.... -lazy On 10/29/05, Jean Helou <jean.helou-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > Joe, > I spent last night correcting the unit and functional tests generated. > They don''t play well at all with the new defaults in rails. Looks like a plugin-based authentication system is in the works: <http://rubyurl.com/NA5>, which currently lacks controllers. It would be very interesting to integrate this with the Rails Engine stuff, so we can have a totally modular customizable login system. Oh, and another vote for removing localization. -Shane http://www.shanesbrain.net On 10/30/05, Oliver Legg <lists-XiLho7JcZycsV2N9l4h3zg@public.gmane.org> wrote:> +1 for removing localization. Just some commercial; you may want to take a look at my auth_generator I released few weeks ago. I had good feedbacks from users. It stores password sha1(), has a nice admin interface for administrator, has some kind of group management, flickr like icons, and all features you''d like for users (resend link for forgotten passwords, create account with email validation), and you can also display user information on static pages. It''s online at http://penso.info/code/auth_generator (there is a short video to show how you can use it quickly) On 11/12/05, Deirdre Saoirse Moen <deirdre-mzk6fgDMp2XR7s880joybQ@public.gmane.org> wrote:> On Oct 28, 2005, at 5:25 PM, Jean Helou wrote: > > > Is someone actually maintaining the SaltedLoginGenerator ? > > I have volunteered to do so. > > -- > _Deirdre http://deirdre.net > > > _______________________________________________ > Rails mailing list > Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails >-- http://penso.info/ | http://photos.penso.info/ http://linuxfr.org/
