Rails - Oct 2005 - VanRuby Meetup Tonight & Canada on Rails Conference Announcement !

Hey Canadians,

Tonight is the second VanRuby presentation, to be held at Suite 330 - 1085
Homer St, Vancouver, BC.

The talk is going to be on SOAP4R and will be presented by Emil Marceta.

Also, I would like to announce, on April 13th and 14th, the first Canadian
Ruby on Rails conference titled "Canada on Rails"

If you are interested in speaking for this event, airfare, hotel, and
possibly some spending money will be provided to speakers who are selected
to talk. Those who are core to Rails, such as David, Chad, etc. please
contact me at nshb-dktOVO25QuxBDgjK7y7TUQ@public.gmane.org - to help me out and
make sure I got you
covered.

This conference will be produced by the newly forming non-profit
organization called the Open Source Foundation (www.osevents.com), which has
previously held events such as PHP West (featuring keynote by Rasmus
Lerdorf), and PHP and Open Source Security (featuring keynote by Bruce
Perens). Previous attendance has been anywhere from 150-200, and with the
massive success our first Rails meeting had at VanRuby (over 50 people
turned out), I imagine this to blow our previous record out of the water.

Funny note, at PHP West, your last conference, (nice job, btw) Bruce
Perens seemed to want talk about RoR as much as PHP and security.
Maybe a return engagement is in order? ;)

Hey James,

That is news to me :) Regretfully, I didn''t even have a chance to see
much
of any of the presentations as I was doing a lot of running around and
organizing ensuring that the event went off without a hitch. That being
said, didn''t hear much of what Perens had to say about RoR, quite
surprising
that he even mentioned it to tell ya the truth :)

Bruce was definitely an interesting speaker, I will see what kind of
experience he has working with Rails. My goal is to get people such as David
Hansson, Chad Fowler, Nathaniel Talbott, Robby Russell, Curt Hibbs, Sam
Ruby, and others who are core to developing with Rails.

If there is someone that I have missed, please let me know. I would like to
approach as many of the core Rails devs that I can, but I am relatively new
to Rails, so I don''t have a who''s who list yet.

Topics I want to cover:

- Getting Started Ruby on Rails
- TDD (Test Driven Development) with Rails
- RDoc
- Advanced Rails Techniques
- Ruby Gems
- Other rails projects (Instant Rails, etc.)
