SCGI 0.4.2 Issues So Far
Hi Folks, I know lots of people are trying out SCGI and giving me feedback. Thanks in advance for this as it''s helping me hammer out some design issues. I just wanted to summarize the outstanding issues people have had with SCGI so that folks can be warned before trying it out: 1) Docs on the main site are still out of date. Please read the README for instructions. 2) Some people have reported sudden massive memory leaks. I have replicated this and I have a proposed SRR redesign that should get rid of the problem. The key with this leak is that everything runs like normal, then suddenly your memory spikes to a huge amount. No explanation. Oh, and even in production mode. 3) Using lighttpd with the -m option (maxconns redirects to /busy.html) is really, really, really slow. Working up some docs for how to fix this. 4) Apache seems to be the big configuration pain. I''m looking at make a Rails generator that would generate configs for apache and lighttpd which you could include. 5) Some folks still want the original "one socket/N processors" mode of operation. I''m still working on that. 6) Can''t run it as a windows service very easily. Many people recommend srvany, but I haven''t tried it out yet. That''s all that I''ve come across so far. Please e-mail me with your reports. Zed A. Shaw http://www.zedshaw.com/
zed, thank you for your great work! Keep reeleasing, we''ll keep testing :-) I think you are very close to a stable release. keep features at a minimun, and try to close bugs. Remember that the behavior I reported to you was a continual grovth of memory usage with each request serviced, not an explosive and sudden increase of memory usage. On 10/21/05, Zed A.
