Rails - Oct 2005 - My fcgi setup doesn't doesn't start rails first time

I am having an odd problem.

When I first hit my application (running under fcgi on https) I get:

Application error
Rails application failed to start properly

If I refresh it then works.

(I''ve lost my log files at the moment (don''t ask!)) and I
wondered if this is a well known problem.
