Rails - Oct 2005 - ActiveMailer and Spread

Does anyone have any experience using Rails with Spread(or some other
messaging framework)? In particular I''m looking to create a standalone
app
that uses''s ActiveMailer to perform asynchronous emailing via messaging
calls through Spread. Is it easily possible to use ActiveMailer outside of
rails, from a standalone app?

What are you trying to achieve here that SMTP doesn''t allow for?

I''ve used Spread in Perl before and love it. Are there Ruby bindings  
now?
