Rails - Sep 2005 - generator: adding content to an existing file ?

Hi,

I am writing a generator that has to put content in the
app/controllers/application.rb (methods and "before_filter" lines.

Is there an easy way to do that, even if
app/controllers/application.rb exists, and just add the methods
instead of overwriting the file if the users generates to a running
rails application ?

I searched but haven''t found much informations about the generator in
general :)

I''ve use various generators and none did that. They all provide
install instructions about what to perform to complete
the installation, that''s all.

Me too, but it doesn''t mean it''s not possible :)
