Hello list, sorry if this had been on the list already: Is it only me, or are you experiencing a 502 - Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. also when trying to request http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/ best regards Jan Prill
I have been getting 502 errors on the wiki for a couple of days now. What gives?

Yeah and I can''t find a way to tell TextDrive they''ve got a problem maybe they''re not such a greating hoster? So it''s not a problem with the hoster. Also, as the blog announced the problem, I''m sure they are already aware of the problem.

It''s a problem with the non-sql database that instiki uses not being able to handle a large wiki. -- rick http://techno-weenie.net
I tried that you need a username to submit a trouble ticket :(. They just need a simple email link where I could tell them I''m experiencing a problem with one of the sites they host. And if the problem isn''t theirs they can contact the site developer. I''ve been working on a ultra-simple replacement for Instiki called i2 since yesterday evening. It''ll go live later today. Note, this is different from Instiki-AR. i2 is a lot less software and more opinionated. I just expanded the html backup, and it comes to 6.3M total. What are the specs on the machine that was hosting it? What is Instiki doing behind the scenes that causes it to need (I assume) something like a factor of 20 more memory than the flat text needs? I could understand a factor of 4 or 5, but it seems a little... strange for it to be that high. -- Alex
It''s down: http://weblog.rubyonrails.com/archives/2005/09/20/the-wiki-is-down And on a related note... would it perhaps not be a bad idea for someone with access to redirect wiki.rubyonrails.com to an informative error page: Something like: "The Wiki is down. We know. Madeleine barfed. Please check back soon?" But still, Madeleine requires approximately 10x the memory of the dump. So a 50MB madeleine storage file will take ~500MB of memory. That''s not too dandy. I mean, it''s not possible to even write a mere requirements or architecture document in a day.

You write the software itself faster than it would take to write the requirements docs. No, I''m not entirely serious. Arriving at valuable software by writing it piece by piece rather than trying to envision it all at once is a pretty solid approach in an environment like Rails. -- David Heinemeier Hansson http://www.loudthinking.com -- Broadcasting Brain http://www.basecamphq.com -- Online project management http://www.backpackit.com -- Personal information manager http://www.rubyonrails.com -- Web-application framework
