Rails - Sep 2005 - I'm Presenting Ruby and Rails in St. Paul / Minneapolis Tuesday, September 20th 2005

The Object Technology User Group folks have graciously given me 2.5
hours to preach the Ruby and Rails gospel to the good technology folks
of Minnesota. I''m armed with 72 brand-spankin'' new (and witty)
powerpoint slides and a demo Rails app that is *not a blog or todo
list*.

As of a week ago there were 65 RSVPs and I''m speaking in an auditorium
that seats 400! So there''s plenty of room in case you''re in
the area
come on over and show support for the bestest web developer community
in the world. Also that way someone can take over if I faint from the
nervousness! (j/k)

I also have a bunch of PragProgrammer books to give away as prizes,
including an actual autographed* copy of the hard-to-get-your-hands-on
Agile Web Development with Rails.

Beautiful! I am a Minneapolis ColdFusion guy currently trying to get
going with Ruby and Rails. This sounds like a great opportunity, and I
shall try to attend!

Obie is a personal friend and I can vouch both for his overall
I-wish-I-were-as-smart-as-him-ishness and speaking ability. Don''t miss

Yep, I''ll post the presentation on my website and RubyForge after
tomorrow night. I''ve been tagging most everything I write nowadays
with a liberal creative commons license so that others can use the
content.

Obie,

Great presentation! For a first-timer (on that scale, at least, as you
said) I thought you did very well. My enthusiasm for rails increased
dramatically. I actually danced while I waited for the bus afterwards,
a big fat grin spanning my face, thinking about a future using Ruby
and Rails.

For a language that touts its simplicity and getting more done with
less, it almost seems ironic that nigh five hours seemed barely
enough. I guess "you can''t eat just one."
