Hi everyone, My email client is starting to choke at all the message I''m keeping "to read later", so I''m wondering if there''s a searchable archive of this list I can reference when I need to. Thanks, Sean ------- Sean Hussey Web Database Specialist Berklee College of Music 617-747-2926

Hi Sean, Here is the link to the archive: http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails Also, I would highly recommend giving gmail a try for your list management. You can add filters so that it will automatically move messages from the list out of your inbox and apply a label to make it easy to search and browse the list. Let me know if you need an invite for a GMail account... as I have tons. It and all references to it should just be deleted. The only real option we have right now is http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails. Gmane has some options for searching directly, but I''ve found them less than successful. The best option is Google search site:gmane.org for ''rails other search terms''. -- Doug Alcorn - http://lathi.net/RubyOnRailsDeveloper doug-jGAhs73c5XxeoWH0uzbU5w@public.gmane.org
I have GMail, but rarely use it. Do most people here use it for list management? This might be a silly question, seeing as it''s based on Google, but is the search ok to work with vs. having a local copy in OSX mail and searching from there? Hmm, yes, that''s a silly question. Nevermind. :) Thanks, everyone! The index hasn''t been updated since July, you can''t search for phrases, and important words like "has" (has_many?) and "another" are stopwords and won''t get searched... Rails is at a pivotal point as it approaches 1.0, but it''s getting harder and harder to get information about it. -- Jay Levitt | Wellesley, MA | I feel calm. I feel ready. >I have GMail, but rarely use it. Do most people here use it for listmanagement? I use gmail for reading this list and managing all other email as well. I tag all incoming mail with a ''List - Rails'' label and skip the inbox. This way the inbox isn''t cluttered and I can read the list at leasure. The nicest thing IMO about gmail are threaded discussions which make reading the list a lot easier. Threads make it easy to ignore discussions I''m not interested in and ''star'' the ones I want to follow. Also it''s a lot quicker to search the list in gmail than on gmane. _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails
It seems stange that we''re all maintaining our own separate archive of this list. _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

Unfortunately, it seems to be arbitrarily sorted, and you can''t change the sort order. For something fast-changing like Rails, that makes it far less useful. -- Jay Levitt | Wellesley, MA | I feel calm. I feel ready.
