I am relunctant to bring up hosting, but I am just about ready to go live on an early beta web app, and noticed that both Textdrive and Railsapphosting are not taking any new customers. According to Railsapphosting''s blog, they are partnering and will be launching in early September. That sounds like a good thing, but I not necessarily know if I want to wait a couple of weeks. Anyone have any suggestions or more detail? Steve
Textdrive is in the middle of a big server migration this week/weekend. I would suspect that is why they ''aren''t taking new customers''. My guess is that the doors would be reopened early next week. Let me tell you, I''ve used quite a few hosts over the years and none of them have compared to Textdrive. None. -Jeff Steve Odom wrote:>I am relunctant to bring up hosting, but I am just about ready to go >live on an early beta web app, and noticed that both Textdrive and >Railsapphosting are not taking any new customers. Textdrive is also migrating servers over the next few days, so that could be another reason why they aren''t taking new customers at the moment. Steve, I would wait a couple of weeks to see how Textdrive''s move goes. They have had a lot of problems with their servers lately, and it''s not clear that this will improve the situation. Check out http://www.ocssolutions.com I,ve found them to be a good place to put Rails apps. -L On 8/25/05, David Felstead <david.felstead-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > Try site5: > > http://www.site5.com/ > > -DF > > On 8/26/05, Steve Odom <steve.odom-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote: > > I am relunctant to bring up hosting, but I am just about ready to go > > live on an early beta web app, and noticed that both Textdrive and > > Railsapphosting are not taking any new customers. hi, from http://textdrive.com/plans/ : "TextDrive is taking a break from adding new clients while we set up some new server mojo. Please check back later. — Dean, Jason and the crew —" TxD offers lot of things that explain the cost imho. It probably won''t be too much longer before TxD starts accepting new customers, and RailsAppHosting is only a few weeks away. If you can hold off for TxD, we''ll be able to painlessly migrate your account over to RailsAppHosting for you when we launch (should you want to do that). I know you have time constraints, but I promise the new RailsAppHosting really will be worth the wait (even much better than the beta version). Feel free to email me direct if you have any questions. Cheers, Ben
Ben, I''ll probably take your advice. Thanks. Granted I joined at one of the worst times and just recently left but I have to say they are pretty good. Even with all the downtime and issues they are having currently, the server status is just one RSS stream away and they get the systems back up fast. If you need basic hosting with no real tools then I would say Textdrive isn''t for you but if you want more than FTP and a webpanel then I would go with Textdrive. SSH, SSL/TLS everything, great support, great docs. Couldn''t go wrong with them, just might have to wait a bit till they are 100% again.
